ROLLAG LUTHERAN CHURCH CEMETERY POLICY
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this policy is to provide regulations for the members of Rollag
Lutheran Church and the Rollag Cemetery Committee in order to improve and
maintain Rollag Lutheran Church Cemetery for its members/former members.
1. The Rollag Cemetery Committee consists of:
• Members who volunteer to serve on this committee
• One member of the committee serves as Treasurer
• A Sexton who is appointed by the council/congregation.
2. The cemetery funds are designated as:
• Funds received through sale of lots, memorials, and undesignated gifts which are placed in a cemetery fund or trust fund.
• Interest from the trust fund which is used to help maintain the cemetery.
3. Standards for improvement, new markers, and grave borders are:
• Any proposed improvement, new markers or grave borders are discussed with the sexton and approved by the Cemetery Committee.
• Ground level concrete footings need to extend four inches beyond the base of the object and need to be provided for all headstones, boundary markers, fences, etc., that extend above the ground.
• Foot markers must be level with the ground unless they are placed on an approved ground level footing.
• Existing perennial plants must be those plants that will not spread or cause extra maintenance, and are maintained by the family.
• Planting of trees on lots is not permitted.
• Mounds are to be removed and cavities are to be filled with black soil, planted with grass, and maintained by the family.
• Members who have relatives buried in the cemetery are requested to improve/ maintain the lots in order to meet these regulations.
• If no attempt is made to improve/maintain the lots by members who have relatives buried in the cemetery, the Cemetery Committee can make the necessary
improvements/maintenance.
• Members of Rollag Lutheran Church clean, mow, prune, and repair the church
yard/ cemetery prior to Memorial Day and throughout the year as needed and/or directed by the Cemetery Committee.
• All artificial flowers and enhancements must be removed by July 1 of each year for the purpose of maintenance and beautification.
• Vaults are required for each grave in the cemetery.
4. Members of Rollag Lutheran Church are entitled to a family plot, which consists of 4 lots,
free of charge.
5. The Sexton has the discretion to contact family members regarding utilization of unused gravesites in family plots.
6. Burial Fees: Fee charged per lot.
• Active members are entitled to a family plot, which consists of 4 lots free of charge.
• Inactive and non-members - $2000.00 for a plot (4 grave sites)
• Inactive and non-members - $500.00 for an individual grave site
• Cremation – Active members - $500 per columbarium site (2 remains)*
• Cremation – Inactive and non-members - $1000.00 per columbarium site (2 remains)*
*Columbarium fee includes name plate. Engraving not included.
