The Story of the Christmas Tree
26 Days of Christmas:
A Family Advent Activity Plan Starting December 1st
December 13th
Add one sheep to your tree. Even though we are like sheep and have trouble following our Shepherd, He loves us completely and takes care of us every day. "The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need" (Psalm 23:1)

December 12th
Add one sheep to your tree. God says that you are like sheep, sheep who don't follow the shepherd. He sent Jesus to be our Good Shepherd and to bring us back to him. "All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God's paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on the sins of us all" Isaiah 53:6

December 11th
Add one snowflake to your tree. Just like clean white sone hides the hard, dirty ground, Jeus covers out sins. "Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sin is put out of sight!" (Psalm 32:1)

December 10th
Add 2 lights to your tree. Sin makes the world dark and unhappy, but "God is light" (1 John 1:5) and he came to give us his light. "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it." (John 1:5)

December 9th: Add one shepherd to your tree. The shepherds were the first to hear about the gift God has sent to the world. Shepherds take care of their sheep. Jesus takes care of you. Jesus said, "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd sacrifices his life for the sheep" (John 10:11) What did Jesus do for you?

December 8th: Add two candy canes to your tree. What are the colors on a candy cane? White is for Jesus, the holy, sinless Son of God. Red is for God's great love for us. He sent his Son, Jesus, to die in our place. "For God make Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ" (2 Corinthians 5:21)
image
December 7th: Add Joseph to your tree. "Joseph, son of David, 'the angel said, "do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. For the child within her was conceived by Holy Spirit. And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins." (Matthew 1:20-21) How did Jesus save us from our sins?

December 6th: Add one light to your tree. When Jesus came into the world, he brought life and light. "The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone" (John 1:4)
image
December 5th: Add one snowflake to your tree. Jesus came to be our Savior because each one of us is a sinner. He is the One who forgives all out sins. "Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, I will make them white as wool" (Isaiah 1:18)
image
December 4th: Add Mary to your tree. "Don't be afraid, Mary," the angel told her, "for you have found favor with God! you will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus." (Luke 1:30-31)
image
December 3rd: Add one angel to your tree. The angels had been waiting for God to send the Savior since Adam and Eve first sinned in the Garden of Eden. The angel Gabriel was the one God chose to bring the news to Mary. "Gabriel appeared to her and said, "Greetings, favored woman! the Lord is with you!" (Luke 1:28)

December 2nd: Add one light to your tree. Sin brought a certain kind of darkness into the world. Are you ever afraid of the dark? "Jesus said, "I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won't have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life" (John 8:12)
image
December 1st: Add one candy cane to your tree. Turn the candy cane upside down. What letter do you see? The letter J is for Jesus. Jesus is what Christmas is all about. "For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16)
